During my recent visit to Mama Ashanti in Lavington, I experienced the delightful flavors of West Africa that genuinely transported me home. The environment was warm and inviting, decorated with lovely details that encapsulate the essence of West African culture. It was a beautiful afternoon, around 3 PM, and I couldn't wait to dive into a culinary adventure.
Upon entering, I was warmly welcomed by the friendly staff, and soon after, I was introduced to Chacha, our server for the day. Her attentiveness and knowledge of the menu made me feel like a valued guest right away. She recommended the Nigerian Food Platter and I must say, it was an excellent choice, bursting with authentic flavors and fresh ingredients.
The platter was artfully arranged and included a variety of dishes that were a feast for both the eyes and the palate. The depth of flavors in each item told a story of tradition, love, and meticulous preparation. I was blown away by how Mama Ashanti managed to encapsulate the essence of home cooking in a meal served at a restaurant.
What caught my attention was not just the food but also the impeccable service. Chacha was delightful, checking in frequently to ensure everything was satisfactory without being intrusive. Her friendly demeanor truly enhanced the dining experience.
For my main course, I decided to try the Grilled Fish with Rice and Spinach Sauce. The fish was grilled to perfection, served with a side of fluffy rice complemented by the aromatic spinach sauce. Each bite was a testament to the culinary expertise at Mama Ashanti. The fish was undeniably fresh, making it evident that quality ingredients are a priority here. Moreover, the prices were very reasonable for such an exceptional meal, offering great value for money!
Amidst my meal, I overheard another table raving about the Fried Rice and Jollof Spaghetti, both of which I noted to try on my next visit. The buzz in the restaurant was lively, yet there was a sense of calm, likely due to the friendly atmosphere and welcoming vibes.
As I finished my meal, I couldn't resist the temptation to glance at the dessert menu. I later enjoyed a delightful traditional dessert that was the perfect end to my meal.
With fantastic dishes and even better service, Mama Ashanti’s is a jewel in the heart of Nairobi that anyone can enjoy. Next time I’m looking for a taste of West Africa, you can bet I’ll be returning. Kudos to Chacha and the entire team for a memorable experience.
