A Taste of the Mediterranean Right in Nairobi: My Experience at Kalamata Restaurant & Bar

The moment I stepped into Kalamata Restaurant & Bar, I was immediately enveloped by its rustic charm and Mediterranean flair. Located in the heart of Nairobi, I decided to visit during the golden hour, around 6 PM, to fully enjoy the lovely al-fresco setting.

I had heard rave reviews about the food, but what really drew me in was the promise of fresh, wholesome dishes. I started my evening with an armored Greek Salad priced at Ksh 1,200. The ingredients were vibrant and fresh, bursting with flavors that reminded me of sun-soaked coasts. Every bite was a testament to the quality of the produce they use here.

For my main course, I went with the Grilled Octopus, a dish highly recommended by the staff. At Ksh 2,500, it was a treat I won’t soon forget. The octopus was perfectly charred and tender, seasoned with just the right mix of herbs that transformed each bite into a celebration of Mediterranean flavors. I can still recall the chargrilled taste paired with a drizzle of lemon; it was divine!

The service at Kalamata was equally commendable. My waiter, David, was attentive yet unobtrusive, ensuring my glass was never empty and that my meal was served promptly. He shared his recommendations with genuine enthusiasm, which made the experience feel even more personalized and special.

As I relaxed under the twinkling lights, I noticed diners around me were equally enchanted, some opting for hearty pastas and vibrant vegetable dishes that filled the air with tantalizing aromas. It's a place where the vibe is just as important as the food. Everyone seems to be enjoying their meals, and it truly felt like a slice of the Mediterranean had been brought to Nairobi.

To wind down my dining experience, I couldn't resist trying the restaurant's Baklava. Although I was already full, the promise of a sweet finish to my meal was too tempting. At Ksh 800, it was worth every shilling; it was warm, flaky, and sweetened perfectly with honey and nuts, providing a delightful contrast to the savory dishes I savored earlier.

Overall, Kalamata Restaurant & Bar is a beacon for those seeking a genuine Mediterranean dining experience. Whether you're a local or just visiting Nairobi, this gem offers feel-good food that celebrates simplicity and bold tastes, all within a relaxed atmosphere that encourages you to linger a little longer. If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by, and perhaps ask for David; he will surely take care of you!
